Spring 2014
NETWORK NEWS
The UK still plays an essential role in the
success of PEG, accounting for 50% of total
volumes being moved across Europe. This is a
direct result of greater consumer conidence
and increased manufacturing activity, which
has resulted in a 25% growth in weekly volume
since September, with a signiicant contribution
from UK imports.
Another growth driver has been Direct Injection
- palletised freight directly inputted into a hub
from a manufacturer or customer. Volumes
from this source trebled during 2013, with
direct beneits for both network members and
customers.
Rachael Alpha, Managing Director of
Palletways Europe, said: "Our impressive
growth demonstrates the new-found positivity
across the continent as economies stabilise
and start to grow.
"We fully expect this trend to continue into 2014
and for demand for logistics services to rise
on both sides of the Channel. We forecast new
business opportunities in countries where we
are still establishing our reputation and also as a
result of our recently launched daily service to
Denmark, which will also open up possibilities
across the Nordic region.
"PEG is also committed to improving transit
times on key routes throughout the year. Our
customers increasingly demand an express
service, and enhancing the eiciency of our
transit times is a golden opportunity to further
diferentiate Palletways from its competitors.
"I am conident that we can exceed last year's
excellent results and ensure 2014 is even
more successful".
2014 holds great prospects for the
network across the UK and Europe.
With extremely encouraging signs
that the economy is rebounding, and
many businesses showing a new found
conidence to invest, we expect to see
greater demand for our services in the
year ahead.
The efects of an improving economy
have already been felt by the network,
with record breaking volumes handled
both in the UK and across our European
operations in late 2013. We expect
this to be a sign of things to come and
predict a busy few months ahead.
We have invested heavily in improving
the eiciency of our network over
the past year, with a particular focus
on strengthening our activities in
Germany and developing our two
award-winning technologies, the
Palletways Archway Scanning System
(P.A.S.S) and Palletways Operations in
Real Time (P.O.R.T.) (see story on Page 7
for more information).
The European market ofers major
opportunities for expansion as we
continue to develop our networks
in mainland Europe. This brings
considerable beneits for our UK
members and customers alike, as
exempliied by our expansion into the
new territories of the Czech Republic
and Slovakia late last year.
I know that many of our members have
experienced challenging economic
conditions over recent years. Our
member section on Page 6 reports on
some of your latest stories and I am
delighted to see that so many of you
are expanding your infrastructure,
purchasing new vehicles and creating
new jobs.
I can safely say that the Palletways
network has never been in a better
position for growth, and I want you
thank you all for your dedication over
the past year and wish you a very
prosperous 2014.
