Glendale Transport has been crowned as
Palletways Member of the Year for 2013,

Glendale Transport, who also won the irst
ever Member of the Year Award in 2000, is
to be presented with a bespoke hand-made
1:24 scale model truck with their branding in
recognition of their win.
The family-run business operates from its base
in South Shields, where it serves organisations
in Tyne & Wear, Northumberland, Durham and
Teesside. Glendale Transport currently employs
42 staf and operates a leet of 27 vehicles.
Martyn Young, Managing Director of Palletways
UK Member Network, said: "I would like to
thank Glendale Transport for their dedication
to our network and for maintaining the highest
standards in customer service. It is vital for our
customers to know they can expect the very
best service, and Glendale has shown true
commitment to upholding this core value of
the Palletways network" John Carroll, General
Manager at Glendale Transport, said: "To win
Member of the Year is a fantastic achievement.
We pride ourselves on providing the highest
levels of customer service and recognise that in
today's competitive marketplace this is a crucial
part of winning new business. I would like to
dedicate this award to all our hard working staf,
who made this possible".
The award came as Glendale Transport
reached a major business milestone,
celebrating its 40th anniversary.
Established in 1985, Ferryspeed
enjoys an enviable reputation as
the leading operator of ambient and
temperature-controlled storage and
distribution services to and from
Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle
of Wight.
Q: Tell us a bit about your business and
your involvement with Palletways?
We became a Palletways member in
2012, and today employ over 400 staf.
We operate an extensive leet, of more
than 400 trailers and 100 bespoke
vehicles. The business currently
occupies 500,000 sq t of warehousing
in Portsmouth, Rugby and the Channel
Islands - including a 50,000 sq t
bond facility.
Q: How has the membership
beneitted your business?
We became a Palletways member
following a spell with a smaller
network.
We moved networks as Palletways'
ambition matched our own. We
were also impressed by the level of
commercial support provided by
Palletways - particularly in relation to
IT and telemarketing. This has proved
extremely beneicial in winning new
business and retaining our existing
customer base.
Most importantly, Palletways
membership has enabled us
to expand our service provision
beyond the focus of the Channel
Islands and Isle of Wight. It supports
our plan to be seen by our customers
as a 'one stop shop' service to meet
all their UK mainland, Channel
Island and Isle of Wight palletised
freight needs.
Q: What do you see as the biggest
challenges and opportunities
for 2014?
We have recently entered into
discussions to commence a costefective
lit-on, lit-of service to the
Channel Islands which will present
signiicant opportunities for the
business. We are also planning to
invest heavily in all aspects of our
operations as part of our ongoing
commitment to excellence in
everything we do.
Q: What is the secret to your success?
Whilst clichéd, the fundamental
principle of always putting the
customer first, through open, honest
and transparent communication,
which has served us well over the
last 29 years. We hope that it will
continue to do so for many years
to come.
