Founder member of the Board of the European Social Work Research
Association (ESWRA)
In the context of European Social Work Research Association (ESWRA) some of
you may not know that Professor Brian Taylor Ulster University was the founder
member of the Board of the European Social Work Research Association
(ESWRA) 2014 and remains actively involved.
Brian was also founder and Convenor of the international network Decisions,
Assessment and Risk Special Interest Group and the biennial Decisions,
Assessment, Risk and Evidence in Social Work conference (DARE), offering local
practitioners and service users an opportunity to engage with international experts.
As editor of this newsletter I am delighted to be working with Brian despite his
imminent Retirement, pioneering Evidence into Practice Special Interest Group of
ESWRA (2021) attracting interest from eminent colleagues in academia and social
work practice.

Evidence into Practice Special Interest Group - formally established
We are delighted to announce that that following a good meeting Evidence Into
Practice Special Interest Group was formally launched on Thursday 6th May
2021 at ECSWR Bucharest On-line event. Brian and were delighted and
appreciative that the organisers added it onto the conference proceedings which
added to its profile.
To accommodate different time zones we have had engagement with our
colleagues in Australia/Asia and North America to progress the work of group.
The purpose of the Special Interest Group is to provide a forum for members to:
discuss the challenges and opportunities facing individuals and organisations
in basing practice and service systems on best evidence;
work together on researching and developing effective mechanisms for
getting evidence into practice; and
collaborate in fostering research, organisation development and teaching on
reviewing, disseminating and using robust evidence to inform practice.
On the 6th
April we intend to host a pre-conference event for further discussion on
this group. In addition Evidence-informed Practice SIG (EiPSIG) is planning a
symposium for the 11th
Conference of the European Social Work Research
Association, which will take place in Amsterdam, Netherlands, from the 6th
- 8
th
of
April 2022. This will be led by Symposium organizers: Sigrid James, University
of Kassel, Germany and Aron Shlonsky, Monash University, Australia.
