Karndean Designflooring.
Chipboard/Particle board: must be overlaid
with flooring grade hardboard or plywood to
prevent future potential movement.
Asphalt and Other Impervious Substances
Must be covered with an application of a
smoothing underlayment to the required
thickness. Existing Floorcoverings (Not
Textiles)may be covered provided that:
• Existing floorcoverings and the adhesive to
be used are compatible - check adhesive
manufacturer.
• Existing floorcoverings are complete and
securely adhered to the subfloor.
• All surface contaminants are removed, e.g.
sealer, polish.
If in doubt, take it out!
Textile Floorings
Are not suitable for laying on to and must
be removed.
Cork, Rubber and Similar Floorcoverings:
are not considered suitable for laying on to
and must be removed.
Adjoining Materials: where products of
diferent thicknesses met, the protruding
edge must be protected.
Adhesives
Adhesives for Flotex Roll
All Flotex roll materials must be fully
bonded to the sub-floor using Karndean
Mega-Bond adhesive. For specialised uses
then alternative adhesive types should be
used e.g. Karndean 8000 Polyurethane
2-part.
General Note
• If in doubt about which product to use,
contact Karndean Designflooring
• Ensure the manufacturer's
recommendations relating to coverage,
open times, drying times etc are followed.
• Use a V1 trowel, 1.5mm x 1.5mm or 1.6mm x
1.6mm sized notches.
Laying Flotex Roll
1. Mark out the room
2. Cut the rolls to the required lengths,
remembering to allow for the pattern
repeat. Butt-join factory edge to ensure
an accurate pattern match
3. Allow at least 5cm trim at ends
4. Lay the sheets edge to edge, following
the direction of the arrows, which
should point towards the main light
source, NEVER AWAY
5. Trim of surplus
6. Mark the position of the first sheet in
pencil on the floor.
7. Roll the sheets back onto themselves
8. Spread the adhesive on the exposed
subfloor using the correct notched
trowel as per adhesive manufacturer's
recommendations
9. Follow the adhesive manufacturer's
instructions regarding coverage, open
times, drying times etc
10. Unroll the first sheet following the
pencil mark on the floor.
11. Continue to lay the following sheets in
the same way, edge to edge with close,
butt joints
12. Using a spatula, press the Flotex firmly
into the adhesive from the centre,
towards the edges, to eliminate air
bubbles and ensure good adhesion to
the sub-floor
13. Trim of excess floorcovering along the
walls and skirting boards
14. Continue in the same way for the rest
of the room
