Palletways was delighted to bring early festive cheer to Everyman when
it handed over a cheque for £9,725.41. The Everyman appeal is run by
The Institute of Cancer Research, London, and is dedicated to funding
research into male cancers.
The money was raised via a year-long programme of fundraising
activities with Palletways staff taking part in dress down Fridays, cake
sales, sporting events and a whole host of other initiatives.
Luis Zubialde, Managing Director Palletways (UK) Ltd, said:
"Our company operates in a predominantly male environment so it seemed
only right to help a charity which will resonate with many of our workforce."
Louise Dean, Trusts and Corporate Fundraising Manager from the
Everyman appeal at The Institute of Cancer Research, added:
"We'd like to thank Palletways for this donation. It is fantastic when an
organisation and their employees rally behind a cause."
Two adrenaline junkies from BERSER network logistics ran, climbed, crawled and
waded their way through mud to raise vital funds for a local children's charity.
Robert Marks and Helen Scarratt owners at Berser
International Cargo Services in Newcastle Under
Lyme, took part in the gruelling Born Survivor obstacle
course in Macclesfield to raise cash for the Donna
Louise Trust. The Stafordshire-based charity supports
children with life-limiting conditions and their families.
The course, designed by Royal Marines Commandos,
is billed as the ultimate Military obstacle course.
Determined not to let the rough terrain beat them,
Robert and Helen trained three times a week for
almost four months to get into shape for the event.
An exhausted yet elated Robert, said: "The obstacle course was possibly the
hardest thing I have ever done but the promise of a £500 charity donation from
all the staff at BERSER spurred Helen and I on."
Helen added: "The course was so tough but the sense of pride and achievement
when we finished was unbelievable. To present such a huge sum of money to
the Donna Louise Trust really was the icing on the cake, especially as we know
how reliant they are on charitable donations. It's really rewarding to know that
we'll be helping make a big difference to local children who are in need this
year, and for many more to come."
Our marketing
executive, Katie
Lawton, swapped
pallets for pounding
the streets to raise
money for a leading
cancer charity
when she took part
in the Bupa Great
Birmingham Run.
This time last year
Katie hadn't run a
mile but got into the
sport to after a friend
took part in a 10k race.
She said:
"Although I have never been a runner,
completing a half marathon has always been
on my bucket list but I just didn't think I
had it in me. To spur me on, I signed myself
up for a 10k race so that I had something
to work towards and after completing that
one, I quickly got bit by the running bug!
Not long after I signed up for the Bupa Great
Birmingham Run to raise money for charity
as that way, I knew there'd be no going back."
Katie completed the Run in aid of Cancer
Research UK. She continues:
"More than 1 in 3 people in the UK will
develop some form of cancer during their
lifetime. I'm really fortunate that this disease
hasn't directly affected me or my immediate
family but I have seen what it can do to others.
Cancer Research UK is working really hard to
try and find a cure and taking part in the Bupa
Great Birmingham Run was my way to show
support of the charity."
Katie completed the 13.1 mile course in 2 hours 43
minutes and raised an impressive £615 for Cancer
Research UK along the way!
