Richmond upon Thames boasts
having 21 miles of the River Thames
flowing through the borough. Not only
does it have the longest stretch of the
river but is the only riparian borough to
be both north and south of the River
Thames. Richmond Bridge, the oldest
surviving bridge to span the River
Thames in Greater London (1774-
1777), is an English Heritage Grade
I listed structure. The view of the
Thames from the top of Richmond Hill,
protected by an Act of Parliament since
1902, has been a source of inspiration
for artists and poets throughout the
years.
