Tomorrow's managers are being developed right now
via the Palletways Manager Development Programme
(MDP), a custom built course designed to help develop
the management and personal skills of both Palletways
and members budding managers. The programme is run
annually and is free to delegates who are successfully
nominated and supported by their depot principal or
their line manager.
The programme comprises eight one day sessions including
aspects such as business objective setting, commercial
awareness, customer focus, time management, managing
relationships and teams and maximising decision making
outputs. Following each session delegates have 'back to
work' assignments based at their own work location focusing
on implementing what they have learned. The aim is to add
direct measurable value to their business.
Finally a team outdoor exercise is held in the Forest of
Dean where delegates put their newly developed skills
to the test, solving logistics based problems. At the end of
the programme each delegate will present to a panel of
Palletways senior management and member principals
on how their development will make a contribution to
the business.
The 2015 MDP comprises eleven delegates, seven are from
network members. Johnny Weir, Sales Executive at Jack
Richards & Son Limited, is a 2015 delegate. A recent session
included a night visit to the Fradley hub and Dominic
Purslow of Jack Richards attended to see the programme
first hand. He said:
"The programme is a much needed tool kit
for any manager or aspiring manager. The
delivery of the course enables sensible
and thought provoking processes that
peel back the layers of both business
management and company structure.
Candidates feel the pressure and reveal
their true potential - it has given Jonathan
a real sense of achievement and provides
an opportunity for me to reinforce the
practices we try to instil within the
business but using a more specific and
targeted delivery system."

Tomorrow's managers are on their way…
Just two years after a record one million pallets were
delivered in 2012, Palletways Italia ended last year on a
high, smashing that impressive milestone by an impressive
50 per cent.
The company, located in Calderara di Reno, began its rapid
growth on 25 February 2002 when the first 69 pallets were
distributed, delivering 73,000 pallets during its first year. Just
13 years on, Palletways Italia set two new records in 2014 - it
reported a record weekly volume of 42,000 pallets in July
and a record of 1.5m pallets delivered during the year, 18
per cent up on 2013.
Albino Quaglia, CEO for Palletways Italia, said:
"These are very important milestones - not only down to the
impressive numbers but because I know what these achievements
represent. Behind every single pallet we deliver there is a
commitment from all of our employees, contractors and dealers
to ensure safe and on time deliveries which have been reflected in
milestone figures.
"Several factors have contributed to our success - the quality of
the service, easy-to-understand tariffs, not to mention a steady
increase in the number of dealers that entered the network which
now stands at 90 throughout Italia. All of these factors have brought
growth rates of nearly 30 per cent year on year while also increasing
our market share."
And it's not only Palletways Italia that has reported success:
• So far throughout 2014/15, Palletways Europe Group (PEG)
has seen monthly growth of between 35 and 40 per cent
on the previous year
• Spain has grown by 20 per cent in the last two years and is
now approaching 700,000 annually
• In Germany, the company has invested in a new hub
• The UK has grown by ten per cent and had two consecutive
record weeks of over 100,000 pallets in December
• Benelux has opened a new hub and Fulfilment business
to facilitate future growth
Rachael Alpha, Managing Director for Palletways Europe
GmbH, added:
"Our 'partnered' countries including Austria, Czech Republic,
Denmark, France and Slovakia also continue to show steady growth.
With significant international activity planned for the near future, it is
expected these rates can be maintained and in many cases increased,
making the prospects for the network as a whole look extremely
positive indeed."
