Expert Advice:
How to increase
the productivity
of your people
by at least 25%
Paul Burton is Managing Director
of Performance Management
company Pobi and specializes
in enhancing the performance
of businesses and their workers.
Ultimately, for people to perform at their best they
need 4 things: a defined goal - the 'What'; clarity
of what they need to do to get there - the 'How';
the capability to execute the 'How'; and the
motivation to act. As a specialist in this ield, I speak
to many organisations on the topic of 'People
Performance', singling out the most common
missing element is easy. It's the same for 90%
of companies we speak to - clarity of the 'How'.
Most companies are great at articulating where
they want to be (e.g. the market leader or the most
profitable in their field), but are poor at helping
their people understand what to do differently
in order to get there.
It's a bit like showing someone a picture of an
amazing meal and asking them to cook it. You can
give them the ingredients and tools but without
clear instructions and effective guidance it's never
going to work. It's no different in the workplace.
By understanding how people need to do
something, you can articulate exactly what skills
they need in order to perform at a higher level.
Assessing and developing people against this
enables the organisation and its individuals to
understand where they need to focus in order
to improve.
So how does it feel to be part of an organisation
that gets this right? "This organisation is not
only getting me energised by its vision
but also helping me to focus on specific
areas of my capability which will help me
deliver it. You're not asking me simply to
perform better any more, you're showing
me how to do that and there are few things
in life more motivating and rewarding".
This is your goal.
Network update
Palletways has introduced new Chief Executive
Quarterly Video Reviews to keep members and
staff up to date with the latest developments
across the network.
Presented by James Wilson, the videos provide regular updates on how
the business is faring across Europe. The April edition paid particular
attention to the network's offerings in Spain.
Palletways Iberia has appointed a new Managing Director following
Luis Zubialde's move to the UK. Gregoria Hernando has worked as the
Sales Director for the past couple of years, and the appointment from
within the team shows how well the business is developing in Spain.
Palletways Iberia has experienced significant growth over the past year
in both Portugal and Spain and is forecast to continue this trend.
As the express palletised freight concept continues to grow in
popularity, Palletways expects new entrants into the marketplace over
the coming 12 months. However, James Wilson feels that Palletways
couldn't be in a better position:
"We will see new entrants into the marketplace but that's
something that doesn't worry me, in fact I think it's an
accolade to Palletways model. There are a couple of
networks in Spain today but they don't offer the features
and services that we do".
The Reviews also provide updates on business forecasts across the
network, the economic outlook, and investments in the business.
Speaking in the latest video update, James Wilson highlighted
further planned network investments:
"This summer will see a major development in helping
members to offer better services and better information
to their customers, so watch this space".
