Sensors mean
safety first
The network has invested in
a fleet of specialist cameras
and sensors for its vehicles as
part of its ongoing mission to
promote the highest levels of
road safety.
Following a successful trial at its London
Hub, the network is to roll out a suite of
technology that will provide its drivers with
a 360 degree view around their vehicles and
eliminating blind spots. The system will also
provide audible warnings for the benefit of
cyclists or pedestrians when vehicles turn
or change lanes.
In 2013, Palletways became the first
pallet network to achieve Transport for
London's Fleet Operator Recognition
Scheme, which promotes high health and
safety standards that benefit other road
users. The introduction of the new camera
and sensor systems will further reinforce
Palletways dedication to this scheme and
to overall road safety.
Peter Lascelles, Director of Owned Member
Depots, said:
"We are committed to promoting the highest
safety standards across our network and view
this as an integral development going forward.
The technology was immediately praised by
our drivers for providing greater visibility,
while I am sure the alerts will prove a welcome
benefit for cyclists and pedestrians."
Palletways Manager
Development Programme
"My managing skills have developed massively and help me progress rapidly.
It is a great opportunity for anybody who could play a big part in the
future of your business. My confidence to be able to present in front
of an audience has been my biggest gain from the course."
Tom Mitchell
"The MDP gives you the opportunity to assess the role you currently
play in your business versus the role you want to play in your business
and gives you the tools to strategically plan your career progression.
It also allows you to build a network of colleagues that can offer
reciprocal support and advice during this time and, I hope, beyond."
Kristie Hawkins
Founded in 2004, the in-house Palletways
Manager Development Programme was created
to boost the understanding and performance of
key employees by developing their business skills
and commercial awareness.
In 2013 the programme was opened up for the first time to a limited
number of Palletways members to offer them the opportunity to develop
senior personnel for the betterment of the network and to add value to the
participating members' businesses. The Manager Development Programme
covers a wide range of business acumen, incorporating everything from
basic finance skills to planning, time management, presentation skills,
team management and customer relations.
