Fernhurst Primary School, a friendly village school near
Haslemere, opened this term as a CAT academy with two
brand new classrooms, enabling it to offer an increased
number of places in seven single form entry classes from
Reception to Year 6.
Headteacher Gary Parkes said, 'Years 1 and 2 love their
vibrant new classrooms and the whole school has benefited
from the extra space.
'We have been able to refit the library and group area at
the heart of the school and Reception children now have a
specially-designed new outdoor play area to complement
the amazing outdoor environment we already have.'

New facilities inside and out
CAT's Portsmouth academy, The Flying Bull Academy,
celebrated the Grand Opening of its refurbished buildings in
October with a community open afternoon.
Guests admired the bright teaching spaces, covered
courtyards and new resources which were shown off with
huge enthusiasm and pride by the pupils. The work was
made possible by a £3.1m allocation from the Primary Capital
Review, and lots of creative ideas from the children, parents
and staff!
During tea, Headteacher Deamonn Hewett-Dale thanked
everyone who had contributed to the unique Flying Bull
community - originally the first state school in Portsmouth -
and who shared his aim of giving its "amazing, bright and
quirky" pupils the best educational opportunities possible.
