SOUTH AMERICA & ANTARCTICA IN MODERN LUXURY
Celebrity Eclipse • 18-19 Nights • December 2019-February 2020 • Prices from £2659pp
Follow in the Footsteps of the Great Explorers!Argentina is the second largest country in South America
and the eighth-largest country in the world - sandwiched
between the Andes mountain range in the west and the
Atlantic Ocean in the east. The capital - Buenos Aires is a top
tourist destination, known for its European style architecture
and rich cultural life. Perhaps dance the tango, ride the
range on a Pampas ranch, trace the life and history of Eva
Peron or enjoy a traditional Aasado (Argentine style BBQ).
Antarctica: Cruise through the Schollart Channel where
penguins, cresting humpback whales, and barking leopard
seals outnumber the amount of people cruising through
the channel. Paradise Bay is where the Argentine and
Chilean scientific research stations can be found. Here you
will be able to marvel at the beauty of crystal clear water
reflecting off staggering icebergs and crevices. Sail through
the Gerlache Straight before reaching Elephant Island which
is an ice-covered mountainous island in the outer reaches
of the South Shetland Islands. Point Wild on the island was
the desolate refuge of Ernest Shackleton and his 28 crew
in 1916 following the loss of their ship Endurance in the
Weddell Sea. It took Shackleton and five of his men almost
two weeks to sail to South Georgia in an open lifeboat to call
for rescue. Shackleton returned four and a half months later
to rescue the remainder of his men who were stranded on
Elephant Island during the middle of the Antarctic Winter.
