he slick and enchanting
production of he Wizard of Oz
was a great success with some
wonderful individual performances.
Talking of individual successes,
Josh Stickland was awarded one of
only three prizes in the Julia Wood
History Essay competition run by
St Hugh's College, Oxford. He was
also inducted as Lord Lieutenant's
Cadet, continuing a long line of
King's cadets who have held this
honour.
Two fifth form pupils enjoyed a month at SACS in Cape
Town in August, to boys from the school will be at King's
in January. At half term a large group of girls and staff
enjoyed a hockey and netball tour of Jamaica. hey won
six out of their seven netball games and three of their
hockey matches. 28 pupils and members of staff climbed
Morocco's Mount Toubkai, at 13,600 feet the highest
mountain in North Africa. A group of pupils visited the
First World Battlefields as reported elsewhere.
We are due to enter a period of significant change to both
GCSEs and A Levels. Sixth Formers will choose three of
four A Levels and will stick with these for two years. hey
will no longer have AS exams at the end of the 6.1 year.
hree 6.1 pupils have been awarded Arkwright Scholarships
for Design Technology and have been assigned sponsors
for their Sixth Form work. his success underlies the quality
and prestige of our DT department, which remains one of
the strongest in the country.
he new uniform has gone down well with both boys
and girls and looks very smart. hanks to Sashi Holford for
designing it.
he girls have done particularly well on the sporting front.
he U18 football team won the ISFA national seven-a-side
tournament. he U16 cross country team won through
to the national finals and our U14 hockey team won the
regional finals. he boys U15 rugby side beat Blundell's by
a large margin to progress to
the 6th round of the NatWest
cup, having beaten Sherborne
in the 3rd round.
