Guests Networking at Michael Page International Dominic Wells-Cole, Quinton Taylor, Jamie Turvill and Tom Halliday
As an introduction to the world beyond school life at
King's, the annual Old Aluredian networking event at
Michael Page, London on the 9th October, gave all pupils
who attended a great insight into future career paths. Over
30 OAs generously supported the event, and with careers
ranging from fashion to banking, as well as being based in
many parts of the world, they were able to give us a taste of
what could lie ahead.
In today's highly competitive world having the opportunity
to establish contacts and to talk to OAs, who readily shared
details of their own journeys after King's in an informal
setting, was really helpful. As a student, constantly being
faced with lots of options and having to make choices,
to have the opportunity to hear about a variety of OA
experiences, get some independent careers advice and,
exchange all important contact details, (just in case an
internship or real life job opportunity was to arise!) was very
valuable.
Planning ahead can seem daunting but this social event has
helped; through talking with OAs, old and young.
I saw an advertising slogan recently "fail to prepare - prepare
to fail!" - a timely reminder that preparation for what lies ahead can make a real difference. hank you to Steve
Ingham of Michael Page, those from King's College and
King's Hall who helped organised the event and to all OAs
who attended - all pupils who attended came away from
the event more informed and better prepared for the future
than when we arrived.
