Events
6 he Cavalry and Guards Club, Piccadilly, again provided a glittering venue for the over subscribed King's Christmas
London Lunch. he company was no less splendid including two Headmasters, members of the King's Hall choir as well
as a range of OAs who had been at the school from the 1940s to the 1960s. Some OAs met for the first time in many
years and spent the afternoon catching up on the intervening decades. he King's Hall Choir welcomed guests with
a beautifully sung range of classic and modern carols. Justin Chippendale OA, and Headmaster of King's Hall School,
introduced the Choir and Director of Music Gareth Dayus-Jones, aptly known by pupils as 'Mr D-J' and talked briefly
about Pyrland Hall, now King's Hall School. Members of the Choir joined guests at lunch where they compared stories of
life at King's.
After an enjoyable Christmas lunch with crackers and hats, Richard Biggs, Headmaster of King's College, gave an update
on current events at the school. He thanked David Stott, Peter Champion and Roger Vincent for their support and help
in the continued success of the Old Pelican Society, the legacy society of the school.
he highlight for many came after lunch when members of the Choir, led by 'Mr D-J', encouraged guests to join them
in singing a variety of Christmas carols, making this a truly warm and festive occasion. Voices young and old celebrated
the start of the festive season in style. Guests were then presented with a copy of the King's College WWI book of
remembrance which was published in commemoration of the outbreak of the Great War and sacrifice made by former
King's pupils. It contains biographies and photos of the 82 OAs who died with many remarkable and moving stories, and
was edited by Chris Warren OA.
