he annual golf match between the Masters, KCT Boys and OAs took place at Taunton and Pickeridge Golf Club on Sunday
20 May, with the closely fought encounter being narrowly won by the Boys' team. A major contributory factor to the Boys
team victory was an outstanding round of 75 scored by young Taylor Stote of King's Hall, who, apart from an effortless golf
swing, impressed everybody with his steady temperament and calmness under the pressure of being drawn to play with his
Headmaster (Justin Chippendale OA) and Deputy Headmaster (Bob Coupland, playing for the KCT Masters team).
Neil Brand was also on top form for the boys, scoring well, and winning the longest drive competition. For the Masters, Phil
Lewis and Francis Barnsley were the pick of a team that all scored steadily and included Jos Buttler, who demonstrated off
the tee some of the power he uses to regularly clear the boundary ropes at the County Ground. For the OA team Rob Berry
and Justin Chippendale put in very respectable scores, but Tim Rainey won the 'closest to the pin' competition , that hole
proved a rare highlight of his round.
Many thanks to all who came and played in the keenly fought and most enjoyable match - especially to Sammy Li OA who
flew in from Hong Kong 48 hours earlier to play in the OA tennis match, and gallantly stood in and impressed everybody
with his long hitting and great touch round the greens.
