he 2012 OA Day was held on 30 June, when 75 guests arrived at King's to
dodge the showers and enjoy the opportunity to revisit their old haunts.
After an initial opportunity to catch up with fellow OAs over coffee, the
new Archive Centre was opened by Garth Pedler (Carpenter 1964). his was
followed by tours of the school, led by current 6th form pupils and staff,
encompassing the Philip Richards Building and the latest machinery to be
delivered to the Design Technology workshop.
A drinks reception preceded lunch, which was held in the dining room amid
the sports shields dating back 100 years and more - more than one OA spent
a happy few minutes looking for their name on a team shield! he OAs and
their guests were very impressed with the range and quality of dishes on
offer in the cafeteria, with lunch rounded off by a traditional bread-andbutter
pudding!
After lunch many OAs took the opportunity to visit exhibitions of pupil
Art and DT work, to watch the 1st XI cricket team in action, and to pay a
more leisurely visit to the Archive Centre to look at photographs and other
memorabilia relating to their time at King's. Alison Mason the archivist and
her two archive volunteers were on hand to answer questions and to locate
particular items of interest.
he day ended with afternoon tea, where a glass or two of Pimms was
enjoyed by all!
