From the Chairman and OA Club Office
An action-packed 6 months for the OA Club
since our last newsletter is reflected in this
bumper edition, with pictures and details of
events, ten pages of OA news and several pages
of OA sports club reports. It is great to have so
many of you responding to our requests for
news to include in the newsletter - please do
keep sending news and photos to Leisa Lavender
in the OA Club Office.
To mark the 60th anniversary of the opening
of Pyrland Hall (King's Hall to the younger
generations out there!) it has been decided that
the annual November reunion dinner will be
held at King's Hall this year - see the back page
for more details. I hope to see you there!
he OA Club Office is losing Rebecca Hickie who is
moving to Surrey over the summer: we are grateful
to her for all that she has done for the Club. We
are pleased to welcome Brenda Hayman and you
will have an opportunity to meet her at the many
events coming up.
Please do let us know what you think about the
new longer format for the newslettter with more
contributions from OAs.
he office has been particulary busy preparing
for the launch of the 2020 Vision Strategy and I look
forward to discussing these exciting projects with
OAs.
he Headmaster writes...
his year has been a busy one for the school and OA Club alike. Just a few weeks ago, our new
Philip Richards Building won an award: the RIBA award for excellence for a new building in the
south west, and we have also been designated an MCC Foundation Hub for cricket.
I have had the pleasure of joining a number of OA events and reunions, including an uproarious
reunion of pupils who had left the school in the 40s and 50s, held in the RAF Club in London.
I never quite know how to respond when an old boy of the school, twice my age, comes up
and confesses, with great relish, to some heinous misdemeanour he committed in the trunk
room of Bishop Fox House 70 years ago!
he opening of the new Archive Centre has been a highlight of the summer term for both the
school and OA Club, and the archivist Alison Mason worked
very hard to get things ready for the opening ceremony on OA
day. But more of that on page 9!
It has been a delight to meet so many of you at our different OA events this year, and I look
forward to meeting more of you over the coming year.
