Old Aluredians v Old Millfieldians
After winning the toss and choosing to bowl we managed to
reduce them to 134 for 7 at lunch with Will Hardwick and
Ian Jeanes bowling great opening spells. After lunch a good
partnership took the OMs to 198 for 7 but Todd Barrett (4-51)
and James Ross (2-35) polished off the final 3 wickets in 4 balls
leaving them 198 all out.
Despite the early wicket of Giles Patterson going down we
came to tea at 35 for 1 with George Webber (finally dismissed
for 44) and Ed Walker both not out. Despite picking up the
run rate we lost wickets regularly leaving the OAs at 138
for 7, Charlie McKegney making an impressive 43. A steady
partnership followed between Will McKegney and James
Croft (34) and latterly Will Hardwick (11*) who managed to
steer us to victory with McKegney junior hitting the winning
runs finishing on 43*.
A great day was had by all with very kind hospitality offered by
the OMs and both sets of players contributing significantly to
a close fought contest.
OA Cricket
here have been a number of local and national Old Boys
Cricket competitions on the go over the years, but one
of them, the largest, called the Cricketer Cup, has been
running since 1966. Originally for the old boys of 16 Public
Schools, that competition proved so popular in its first
year that it was extended to 32 teams in 1969 and has
continued as such ever since. With the demise of the
Brewers Cup and the Cricket World Trophy (competitions
the OAs have played in previously) the Cricketer Cup has
come under increasing pressure to increase its size and this
is a topic that is still under constant discussion but with
much resistance from the current 32. herefore to start a potential expansion he Cricketer Trophy was started in
2011 to give further eight schools a chance to show that
they were worthy of a place in the main competition. he
Cricketer Trophy is now being extended to 16 teams and
the OAs and Millfield are two of these new teams. he
long term hope is that the main Cricketer Cup would be
extended to 48 schools playing in the one competition,
potentially increasing up to 64 in years to come.
he Old Aluredians play Christ's Hospital in round 1 on
