Justin Chippendale -
Headmaster KHS
he Michaelmas term is always
such an exciting one as we all
start with new opportunities as
children move up a year and we
also welcome new children to
the school. here is so much to
get your teeth into through the
heart of the term and finally we
have the wonderful build up to
Christmas with all its celebrations
and Nativities. his term has
been a particularly rewarding and
productive Michaelmas Term
and you are able to see each week
in more detail by clicking on the Newsletter's heading to
be found on the Website.
Many of you reading this may remember being taught by
Mark Irons and this was his last rugby season after 35 years
of service. Fittingly, his final group of players have been
very strong and the 1st XV lost only once all term, beating
the four most local schools a collective 164 points to 19.
Furthermore, they won the Sherborne Prep School Rugby
Sevens Tournament and reached the final of the much
larger Bryanston Sevens Tournament. Our junior rugby
sides have played well, too, with the Under 9s winning
silverware at Blundells.
Pride of place for the girls goes to the Under 12s who
qualified for the IAPS National Hockey Finals where they
played brilliantly to win bronze and so finished third in
the country. About ten days later, our Under 13 girls
became County Hockey Champions after powerful
displays during a day in which they fulfilled their potential
by beating all comers.
Year 8 combined effectively to produce a wonderful
musical adaptation of CS Lewis' 'he Lion, he Witch and
he Wardrobe'. he lead parts were particularly strong
and it was successful both dramatically and musically
as the audience was transported on a magical journey
through Narnia.
As well as the Year 8 play, our Director of Music has been
busy this term with Informal Concerts supporting our
major Autumn Concert, there was really good success at
the Taunton Music and Drama Festival (in its centenary
year) and the Senior Choir goes from strength to strength,
singing at the County Ground for two different audiences
and producing a memorable Carol Service.
he building work (where Ben Goldman used to operate)
for the new facility for two year olds is proceeding well
and we anticipate it being open before half term in
February providing the opportunity for children to start
their King's Hall journey sooner. he redecoration of the
Rose Garden classrooms has been completed and this
makes a very attractive addition to the site.
I find myself a very proud Headmaster reflecting on all
we have achieved as a
community these last few
months as our children
completed an incredible
range of accomplishments.
