OA XV v Ist XV
his was a fantastic free flowing game with plenty of broken
field running and dynamic collisions. he breakdown was
hotly contested as both teams looked for the opening
score. he KCT 1st XV forwards broke tackles regularly and
managed the offload effectively in contact. Good work from
the OA XV, especially Michael Peek, at the breakdown kept
the game finely balanced. he opening score came after a
sharp Jack Holmes break for the 1st XV and a barnstorming
run from prop, Jamie Wild, as he crashed over
the line. he 1st XV took control as Will Potter
threatened from deep at every opportunity
and after smart powerful rucking and quick
hands under pressure, from Holmes and Bryn
Llewellyn, Alex Madge went over to score in
the corner. he OA XV started the second
half strongly and the 1st XV got through
some heavy defensive work to keep them at
bay. After gaining field position and recycling
the ball well, flanker Laurie Moorhead found
himself in the wide channel with 22m to
go. Strong running, determination and the
slightest hint of a dummy saw him break to
the line for a well deserved try taking the game
to 15-0. he 1st XV rang the changes and the subs bench
came on and performed well. 5th former Jack West looked
sharp at scrum half whilst Rory Nixon-Eckersall looked very
assured at full back. he OA XV hit back with two late tries
including a length of the field scorcher from Exeter Chiefs
Academy player Laurence May right at the death. he final
score was 15-12 in an exciting game of running rugby. hank
you to all the OAs who played and supported.

Starting in the main (Cup)
competition, our first game was
against St. Paul's, London and a
dominant display saw us victors
by 27-5, George Wayman and
Nick Mason were amongst the try
scorers. Our 2nd round game was
a closely fought contest against
Skinners, unfortunately we were on
the wrong end of a 12-10 scoreline,
Nick Mason scoring both tries.
After this defeat we were eliminated
into the second tier Plate
competition, playing St George's
Weybridge. A ding dong battle was
played out, Jack Watters starring in
the front row after they refused to play uncontested scrums
despite our lack of prior experience in the position. A superb
team performance saw us snatch victory by 12 points to 10,
Ken Rogers bundling over for a decisive try before a back to
the wall defensive effort saw us cling on to the lead. We now
advanced into the quarter finals, playing Magdelen College
School, Oxford (runners up in 2012). Despite another hugely
spirited effort, Mike Peek in particular, we went down 5-0
and were consequently eliminated.
