Pupils' artwork selected for national exhibition
Mollie Merchant and two of last year's leavers, Florence Main and Molly Mathews,
had artwork selected for an exhibition at Sidcot School near Bristol where their work
sat alongside work of other students and staff from independent schools across the
country.
Girl footballers are double national champions
King's girls footballers are 7 a side national champions at both Under
15s and Under 18 level.
In the national championships held at Charterhouse School, the Under
15s stormed through the group stages, winning each match 2-0. We
then proceeded to the quarter-finals where we beat Cheltenham Ladies
College 2-0, taking us through to a semi-final against Bedford Modern,
which we won 1-0.
In a very tight final, Repton's Rebecca Nelson opened the scoring, before
King's captain Gemma Chilcott scored with a beautiful strike to level
the scores just one minute from time. Extra-time was played before
the game went to a penalty shoot-out. King's scored their first two
penalties, while Repton missed their first and then had their second saved by Gemma Chilcott, to secure the national
title for King's!
Meanwhile the Under 18s sailed through their group matches to set up a very tense last 16 match against Malvern,
which in the end went to penalties, and it was only after ten penalties that King's emerged victorious. After a slightly less
tense affair in the quarter-finals, we then faced the champions from last year, St Bede's School, and eased our way to a
reasonably comfortable 2-0 win, thanks to some excellent saves by keeper Emily Glazebrook.
he final against St Clare's was King's all the way, with Flora Cohen slotting home our first, followed by further goals by
Erin Slade and Katy Hanscomb.
his is an exceptional achievement for girls' sport at King's, proving that we are a school of talented sportswomen now
officially recognised at national level.
Seven selected for county rugby squads
Rugby players at King's are on a high following the
news that seven of them have been included in county
squads this year. Jack West and Aaron Chapman are
both in the Devon County Under 16 squad as well as
achieving Elite Player Development Group status with
the Exeter Chiefs Academy. Alex Dunham, Rory Smith,
Will Potter and Blaine Tottle have also been selected for
the Somerset County Under 18 squad and have been
performing extremely well for the 1st XV this season.
Co-Director of Sport and 1st XV rugby coach Nick Gresswell said "his is an outstanding achievement for the boys.
hey have all worked incredibly hard to achieve this recognition and success, and as a school we are rightly very proud
of them. We hope that they can go on to have successful county seasons, and trial for places at a South West divisional
level later."
Other players were also selected in initial county squads after their respective trials: Will Knill for Devon Under 16s,
along with Zach Spiers, Charlie Snow and Hamish Manger, all for Somerset Under 18s. Lower down the school, a highly
talented group of Under 14s also have four boys attending the Devon Schools of Rugby programme; Oliver Gibbon, Tom
Oxland, Charles Clist and Angus Crouch all start their training programmes this week.
