Bereavement Care
What we say and do in and around the time of death can impact positively or negatively on the
bereavement experience of families…. And we have only one chance to get it right.
The waterlily symbol was introduced across the Trust in 2017 as a way of ensuring a quiet and
respectful environment when a patient has died. It alerts staff passing through a clinical area of the
presence of a deceased patient and their family.
Feedback from staff has been very positive.
Such a simple idea that has
supported the care we
deliver before, at the time of
and after death.
