Kay Murphy, Community Learning Disability Nurse
represented the Trust Learning Disability Nurses on the
Regional General Hospital Forum for Learning Disabilities
and the development of the Hospital Passport which was
launched in May 2017.
The passport was developed in line with the Guidelines and
Audit Implementation Network recommendations for caring
for people with a learning disability in hospital settings.
Since its launch, Trust Learning Disability Nurses have
completed passports regularly with patients and carers
who have planned admissions and in the case of Bernie
(pictured) numerous unplanned admissions to hospital.
The passport aim is to make the hospital visit as
comfortable as possible and to share vital information about
the person to ensure that the treatment provided is as safe
and effective as possible.
