Assuring Safety, Improving Quality and Testing the
Patient Experience (SQE) is a corporate priority for the
Trust and the Nursing and Midwifery professions deliver this
commitment through implementation of our Strategy.
This strategy has enabled us to challenge our practice, and
with a continuous commitment to quality improvement to
work towards 'Getting it Right Every Time'. As you will
all be aware our Trust Nursing and Midwifery Strategy was
originally devised to cover the period 2013 - 2016.
During the lifetime of our South Eastern HSC Trust Strategy,
work was progressing regionally on the development of a
strategy which would be adopted by all Trusts negating the need for a new local South Eastern HSC
Trust Strategy to be developed. The intention is that its contents will now take account of the findings
of the Regional Nursing and Midwifery Task Group being chaired by Sir Richard Barnett. This group
is due to report by the end of March 2018.
It was therefore agreed that our Trust would extend the life of the existing strategy until the
new Regional Strategy is available.
Please ensure that nursing and midwifery staff within your areas of responsibility are aware that our
existing strategy will therefore continue to apply until end September 2018.
We recognise Our Staff are the most important asset in ensuring patients have a safe, high quality
and positive journey through our care and treatment
system.
Therefore we have focussed on creating teams and
environments that are conducive to Person Centred
Practice and supported our staff to develop skills
and competence required to help to deliver the
standard of care to which they aspire.
In May 2015, South Eastern HSC Trust nursing and
midwifery family welcomed the Chief Nursing Officer,
Professor Charlotte McArdle to launch the regionally
agreed Ward Commitments.
These have been adopted across all Inpatient Wards
and demonstrate the professions' leadership role in
assuring positive experience for our patients and
their families when they are in our care.
For the purposes of this report, the South Eastern Health and
Social Care Trust will be referred to as the 'Trust'.
