The Trust Maternity Services have been
re-accredited as Baby Friendly by the Unicef
Baby Friendly Initative.
The re accreditation of the Trust's Maternity and
Health Visiting Services was a reward for almost
20 years of commitment by the Trust to high quality
care in relation to infant feeding and the UNICEF
UK Baby Friendly Initiative.
From being the first hospital in Ireland to achieve
the Baby Friendly Award in the late 90's, to being
now the first Trust to have all services which provide
feeding support to families and their young infants
recognised for their deep rooted and on-going
commitment, this is truly an achievement to be
celebrated.
This award recognises the hard work and dedication
of all grades of staff in all localities, not just to the
assessment process last July, but on a day-by-day
basis, to issues ,which are so important to families
at such a formative time and to wider public health
issues.
We are committed as a Trust to the Regional
Breastfeeding Strategy and the Baby Friendly
Standards which underpin it and we are very
grateful to Janet Calvert and the PHA for their
on-going support. And as we celebrate a fantastic
achievement we look forward to continuing to
deliver high quality care and building on this for the
future.
