Ben Sykes - Staff 1999
On Wednesday 11 June Ben Sykes, former KCT staff, and
friends took off on a Classic Car tour of France, starting from
the lawns of King's College Taunton. Staff and pupils gave
them a great send off. Ben is pictured above with Johny
Plant, Bishop Fox 1953.
James Haigh - Neate's 2002
I went to the Ellesmere TriUK
Triathlon in Shropshire
and qualified for the Age
Group World Triathlon
Championships (AGWTCs)
in Edmonton, Canada, in
September this year. his
was the first of the three
qualification races for the
AGWTCs.
he race was tough, with
an especially challenging
run course; thankfully, the
weather conditions weren't too bad, as the rain only came
hammering down after most of the competitors had finished.
Travelling up on the Saturday, the rain was torrential and it
looked as if it was going to be a very soggy Sunday of racing.
I met a couple of the others who came in the top four in
my age category who had also registered their interest to
race in Edmonton. It was good to discuss preparations and
plans prior to up-and-coming races and share experiences of
training and approaches to races.
I enjoy the Chester event - the city is beautiful and the
atmosphere at this race is always exciting. Two weeks
after that race I go to Kitzbühel for the Age Group
European Triathlon Championships, which will also
be a fantastic; I am very much looking forward to this.
Training is going well and I am feeling in good shape.
James Baker - Neate's 2002
Since I graduated from the Nottingham Trent University
with a degree in Business Studies, I have been working in
the family business, which has been selling meat locally in
Somerset for over 100 years. We have very recently added
a nationwide meat box delivery service to the original
business, selling fully traceable Somerset meat, available with
nationwide delivery. It is something that I (right in picture)
and my brother (Russell Baker) have been working on for
over a year, and we are very passionate about it. he website
is www.battensfarm.co.uk
Since I left university I have also married King's former
house captain Astra Fowden, Taylor 2002. She is a qualified
chartered Marketer and was a huge help in design of the
website and the branding that we have finally decided on.
Another co-incidence is that the nutritional expert we
have used on the site is Mark Wild, Woodard 2002. He is a
respected personal trainer and nutritionist in London, and
is in the process of launching his own online business at
present.
Julia Wray - Meynell 2003
