King's has just ended a very successful
term with some sunshine on Parents'
Day which always helps. Maureen
Willson, former Headmistress of
King's Hall, was the guest speaker
and I am sure many OAs remember
her as a formidable lady who is still in
touch with many she taught. We said
farewell to a number of staff such as
Chris Holmes, Barbara Lancey and Tim
Haynes and they are featured in more detail elsewhere in the
newsletter but I wish to add my thanks for all they have done
for King's and I am sure have been a wonderful influence on
OAs worldwide.
We have had extraordinary support from our OAs during the
last year and I am particularly grateful to the anonymous OA
who funded the Amphitheatre which has already had much
use, and in a variety of ways. I would also like to mention our
Hong Kong OAs who have led the way in support the Sports
Hub appeal and I am immensely grateful to all the members
of the new King's Foundation. here are many OAs who
support the school from Chris Warren who volunteers in the
Archives, guest speakers, visitors who reconnect with school,
and some who send their children to us. Our wider King's
family remains part of the success of our school and please do
feel free to visit whenever you are in the area.
Much of the school highlights of the year have been blogged,
tweeted and published on the website and I hope you have
noted the breadth and depth of academic and sporting
success our girls and boys have enjoyed. he school has led
the way as the first school to establish a Philosothon; friendly
'competition' between schools in which students participate
in philosophical discussion; we are the National U18 Girls'
Football champions; both our Under 19 and Under 15 girls'
tennis players won their plate competitions at this year's
ISTA National Championships held at Eton and Neil Brand,
Captain of the 1st XI team became the first King's pupil ever
to achieve 1000 runs in a season.
I look forward to meeting OAs
on my travels around the world
and also in school, you are
always welcome.
