King's College
King's College girls were impressive
winners of the ISFA Under 18 Girls'
National Cup, lifting the trophy for the
first time after a 4-0 win at Borehamwood
FC, the home of Arsenal Ladies.
Our girls dominated the match from
the start, though opponents Sevenoaks
battled throughout and did well to
restrict King's. Despite enjoying territorial
dominance, it took 21 minutes before we
broke through, a break down the right
ending with Erin Slade rifling home a
shot. Two minutes later came the second
when Maisie Brown tapped home a cross
from the right.
Sevenoaks began the second half well.
Captain Katharine Nickols, who worked
tirelessly throughout, fired a 25-yard shot
just over the bar and then saw a similar
effort beaten away by King's keeper
Nancy Rowe. However, we soon regained
the ascendancy and once again scored
twice in three minutes, both right-footed

his term Maisie has been

triple jump, furthering
her personal best to

Taunton Area, Somerset
Schools and South
West Champion. She has also competed over 200m, and
was unbeaten this season until the final race at the South
West Championships, where she lost by one hundredth to
finished second.
Both our Under 19 and Under 15 girls' tennis players
won their plate competitions at this year's ISTA National
Championships held at Eton. Pearllan Cipriano and Grace
Murray were narrowly defeated in a tense, first-round
encounter with Repton in the Loveband Trophy - the tie
ended 10-8 in a closely fought third-set tie break which
meant they moved into the plate competition.
Here they quickly moved through the rounds, beating
schools like Hymers, KCS and St Peter's without dropping
a single set. hey arrived at the semi-finals facing a strong
RGS Newcastle side and won the first set 6-3, despite a
momentary lapse in concentration. hey then went on to
win the second set 6-3 quite comfortably, the win set up
nicely by a tremendous service game from Pearllan.
his meant they had reached the finals of the Loveband plate
competition. hey came up against a very strong pairing
from Wycombe Abbey, and, with plenty of pre-match
nerves, lost the first set 6-7 in a close tie break, but they then
came back well to win the second set 7-5. It all came down
to a championship tie break in the end - King's enjoyed a
surge of energy and won the tie break 10-2, making them
winners of the Loveband plate!
Under 15s Beth Beale and Samantha Church also won their
plate final, with victories over Wycombe Abbey, Eastbourne,
New Hall and Benenden, making it a fantastic couple of days
for girls' tennis at King's.
strikes from Katy Hanscomb, to complete a thoroughly deserved victory.
Head of Football at King's, Chris Heayns, said "We were a little bit nervous
before the start, and so never thought we would put in such a dominant
performance. It was a magnificent effort by our girls - I couldn't be prouder!"
