What a special occasion we had for
Prize Day and how brilliant was Laura
Bates! We are very lucky that someone
so in demand found time to come
and visit her alma mater and share her
thoughts. She was so passionate, so
knowledgeable, so thought provoking
and so inspiring for the children.
he previous weekend I had a
wonderful luncheon at he County
Ground, which was set to take place
before the Schools match between
King's College and Millfield in advance
of the T20 Blast game where Somerset hosted Essex. he
morning's rain put paid to the schools game, however the
evening saw 17 of our very excited boys and girls from King's
Hall making the Guard of Honour before the Somerset Game.
King's College Big Band then provided the entertainment
afterwards - a pretty good day for the King's Community
his term we have had a school inspection. I am deeply proud
to be Headmaster of a school about which so many wonderful
things were said about the children, the experience offered,
their terrific achievements, their nurturing care and their
personal development. here were many accolades for all of
the adults involved throughout the community who combine
to create the experience for the children and, as we look to
weave together the children and the adults through strong
collaboration, the Inspection team were very taken by the
quality of the relationships that exist in all directions between
the children, parents and the school.
he new Pelican Nursery is an excellent addition to our
provision and we hope you will make it known to your friends
that children can now enjoy a King's Hall education from the
age of two. I encourage you to visit it and please don't feel you
need to wait for an invitation.
his academic year has been hugely successful for the Music
and Drama departments. I remember the poignancy of the
Remembrance Service and the beauty of the Carol Service;
a terrific run of performances of he Lion, he Witch And
he Wardrobe from Year 8; the Senior Choir singing carols
at the County Cricket Ground; the Pre-Prep shows bringing
the house down as usual; an amazing joint schools Concert
in Exeter Cathedral and a memorable concert in St Michael's
Church, Orchard Portman as well as a relaxed and charming
Fête de la Musique.
During the year our teams have all performed strongly on their
circuits and other highlights include the Under 12 girls winning
bronze medals at the National Hockey finals; the Under 13s are
County Champions; we won the Sherborne sevens; we have
seven county hockey players and five players representing their
respective county cricket age group sides; two girls competed
in the National Prep Schools
Athletics Championships in
Birmingham. One ran a personal
best in the 800 metres and won
a bronze medal.
