OA Cricket v Reeds - Cricketer
Trophy
by Will McKegney
he first thing that must be
mentioned is a huge OA thank
you to Chris Rew for stepping
into the side at the very last
minute (quite literally!) and
saving us from playing the
game one man short after a
late withdrawal.
After losing the toss and being
put into bat we were a slight
spot of bother following a
couple of early wickets but
Phil Lewis (who finished with
147) and George Webber (69)
rebuilt the innings superbly to
put in command of the game.
Some lusty blows lower down
the order, most notably by Will
Webster (22 off 10), eventually allowed us to finish on 324
off 49.5 overs.
Will Hardwick and Will Webster then both bowled very
steadily up front each dismissing one of their opening
batsmen as they chased our mammoth target. Despite a
fairly average fielding display that saw 4 catches go down, we
were still able to pick up wickets regularly with 'spin twins'
Todd Barrett (3-18) and Giles Patterson (3-43) the most effective as we dismissed them for 166 to win by 158 runs.
he semi-final of the cricketer trophy will be played at King's
on Sunday 20 July,11:30 start.
I would like to thank everyone that played for contributing
to a very impressive team win and the teams special thanks
go to Samantha and Robert Lowe for their fantastic work
providing us with our tea, coffee, biscuits, cakes and a
wonderful lunch.

Pelican Golf - Public Schools Putting Competition
by Roger Vincent
King's took part once again in the Royal Wimbledon
Public School Putting competition on Monday 2nd
June. On the evening, we were up against Ampleforth,
Charterhouse, Eastbourne, Harrow, Merchant Taylors,
St Pauls and Whitgift, all with considerably more golfing
tradition than King's. We came a creditable 3rd, which
means we survive the cut as two teams get relegated, and
we live to putt another day. Our star, after a shaky start
was Rob Excell, winning 5 of his seven matches, closely
followed by David Ford; Paul Griffiths and Roger Vincent
made up the team. his is a very enjoyable evening's golf
with a difference over a challenging putting course, and
any OA who fancies their putting stroke and would like
to be included in future years, please contact Martin
Evans or Roger Vincent. he evening was rounded off
with a Curry, and for once we were not clinging on trying to escape the drop. Any OA interested in the enjoyable
outings of the Pelican Golf Society should contact Martin Evans
