Hannah Welch enjoyed her first point-to-point win on
Saturday in the Members' Race with a horse called Vertige
Dore, formerly trained at David Pipe's yard. It was a high
standard field, reading more like a mixed open race than a
hunt race. Hannah has had a number of other rides over
the Easter holidays, always finishing in the first three, and
the most exciting was at Cothelstone where she was second
in an open mare's race with another David Pipe horse called
Lady Vie. his an outstanding achievement for Hannah.
Twelve pupils from the equestrian teams at King's Hall School
and King's College enjoyed a fantastic cross-country clinic
with Olympic legend Mary King at Pontispool Arena. Pupils
ranged from 9 to 16 years old, and enjoyed learning from
Mary how to ride different jumps and how she approaches
the cross-country phase of a three-day event.
Head of Equestrian at King's, Julie Greswell, said how pleased
she was that the pupils had obviously enjoyed the session so
much. "I am thrilled that everyone gained such a valuable
insight into professional cross-country skills and techniques,
and learned how to apply Mary's expertise to their own
riding; some of our pupils rode with a huge smile on their
face during the entire clinic!"
