OA Hockey v King's 1st XI
by Corbett Sykes-Moore
A strong OA side were organised to return to King's to take
on the current 1st XI. It included the bulk of the squad that
went on tour to India three years ago and a couple of older
OAs. he game was very competitive with England U18
player Matt Richards exciting the crowd with his speed and
skill, ably assisted by Tristan Marshall. Past 1st XI captains
included Tom Hedley (Tuckwell 2002), Jamie Grantham
(Woodard 2010), Matt Harden (King Alfred 2012) and
Corbett (Woodard 2013). he 1st XI were not to be out done and the defence held up well with captain Laurie Moorhead
showing great composure, alongside Leo Goodman-Jones
and Ed Denton, with both goalkeepers Paddy Cartwright
and Zach Spiers, pulling off top class saves. Joe Merriweather
and Josh Stickland worked tirelessly in mid-field, with John
Hall and Jack Holmes trying to slide balls through to the
attackers. he forwards ran and ran trying to create space
and eventually after several squandered chances at both
ends, Joe Merriweather scored the winner for the school
with 5 minutes to play. A very enjoyable end to end match
with lots of talent past and future on show.

Hockey
OA v King's 1st Team
by Sarah Similien
It was good to see so many
of last year's 6.2s back to
play against the 1st Netball
team. After a decent warm
up, the girls took to the
court with the OAs being
the first team to score, but
once the 1st team got into
their rhythm they began
to build a lead of 6-3 at
the end of the first 1/4.
he OAs took a little bit
of time to find their feet
and to adjust to playing
with each other, so errors
were bound to play a part.
Nancy Rowe and Sophia
Collins combined well in
defence, putting pressure
on the OA shooters.
he OA's produced a better
2nd 1/4 scoring 5 goals, but
the 1sts maintained their
effort with very good work
around the edge of the
circle from Beth Horsham,
feeding Alicia Mileham and
Leea Dod accurately. he
1sts led 13-8 at half time.
he OA's took advantage
of the height difference in
their defensive circle in the
3rd 1/4 and also capitalised
on some good turnovers in
their attacking 1/3 and won
this 1/4 by 7 goals to 3. his
made for a very exciting last
1/4 with the 1sts holding a
very narrow lead by one goal
of 16-15.
he 1sts were very
determined and played
some lovely flowing netball.
hey made fewer errors
throughout the match
and worked really well as a
team. Erin Slade and Gussy
Hydleman worked tirelessly
throughout to turn over the
ball and to work the ball into
the attack.
My player of the match
went to Leea Dod for her
movement in the circle and
also for her defensive work
in the attacking 1/3.
