King's College
he brand new amphitheatre at King's was officially opened
in May by Professor Alan Outram, Head of Archaeology
at Exeter University. Before unveiling a commemorative
plaque, he spoke warmly of how pleased he was that the
King's amphitheatre was a real amphitheatre in the true
sense of the word.
his latest addition to the drama facilities at King's was
designed by architect Rob Mitchell, who also designed
the award-winning new library a few years ago, and was
constructed by local builders George Bros.
After the official ceremony, a packed audience was treated to an evening of dramatic scenes and popular music numbers.
Headmaster Richard Biggs said "My hope is that this theatre,
made possible by the extraordinary generosity of an OA, will
soon work its way under the skin of this school and find
uses we may not even have dreamt of yet. he possibilities
are endless."
Good use has already been made of the amphitheatre with
three services and an assembly in the final weeks of term.
Richard Biggs commented that these events "emphasised
for me what a special facility that is . . . much more intimate
and relaxed than the rather stuffy assemblies we have in
Chapel each week."
