District Nursing Service - South Eastern HSC
Trust Snow Heroes
District nurses were transported to house calls by tractor
after the 'Beast from the East' brought challenging weather
conditions to Northern Ireland.
South Eastern HSC Trust staff have gone above and beyond to
ensure that the most vulnerable in our community are cared for.
Community and hospital teams battled through snow on foot or
with the help from our Transport Department - and some have
even travelled by tractor to keep our services running!
District Nursing Staff for Downpatrick, Breige Magee and Terese
McMullan, took a unique form of transport to ensure their patients
received the treatment and care they required.
Following the weather conditions and several centimetres of snow
lying in Downpatrick, both nurses were unable to drive their cars.
Fortunately for them Terese's husband, John Charles McMullan,
had just purchased a brand new tractor the day before and gave
up work on the farm for the day to ensure both nurses were
transported to their calls across Downpatrick.
They stated that the patients they visited were highly appreciative of the dedication they have
shown to their job and the kind and selfless contribution John Charles McMullan has made to
ensure services to the nurses' patients were not affected.
Nicki Patterson, Director of Nursing, Older People and Primary Care said:
"The weather has been challenging but our staff have shown extraordinary dedication
to ensure minimal disruption to patient care. This is just one example of how our staff
have gone above and beyond and how the community have supported us through these
adverse weather conditions. A huge thank you to everyone for their hard work and
assistance".
Huge thank you to all our staff for keeping our services running in these challenging weather
conditions. You are all amazing!
