Breast Ambulatory Clinic
The Breast Ambulatory Clinic runs 2 days per week from ward 5A Treatment Room. This is almost
entirely nurse led by the staff working on Ward 5A. It is used to see patients who have been
discharged from hospital following breast surgery, commonly for removal of drains or
wound dressings.
From January 2018 - 2019, 92 patients were treated at the clinic with 90% entirely nurse led.
The other 10% needed input from the consultant or a prescription.
The success of these clinics lies with the hard work and dedication of the nursing staff within
ward 5A. They are motivated to ensure good patient-flow within the elective surgery setting and
appreciate that managing these clinics saves inpatient bed days, reduces costs, ensures good bed
utilisation and ultimately are a great resource for the patient.
