Palliative Care
In November 2018 the South Eastern HSC
Trust in partnership with Marie Curie NI hosted
a conference 'Ethical Challenges of 21st
Century Palliative Care'.
The delegates at this conference included a
range of professions from Ireland and the
United Kingdom.
Local and national experts discussed issues
including mental capacity, psychological
challenges in delivering palliative care,
end of life decision making and the ethical
complexities in delivering patient choice.
Diabetes Specialist Nursing Team
The Diabetes Hub opened at the Ulster
Hospital in May 2018. Consolidating diabetes
services within the Hub has helped improve the
experience for patients newly diagnosed with
diabetes and those currently living with diabetes.
The introduction of ad hoc appointments has
been welcomed by our service users, as this
has allowed faster access to Diabetes Specialist
Nurses 8.30am - 4.30pm, Monday - Friday.
Presently the Diabetes Specialist Nursing Team consists of five specialist nurses providing both
Inpatient and Outpatient diabetes care and advice.
"Interesting and challenging, keeping
the importance of palliative care for all
at the forefront".
"Thought provoking and it gave useful
tips on how to broach these difficult,
complex situations".
