In November 2018 staff from the Day Procedure Unit (DPU) in the
Ulster Hospital took part in the Dragon's Den Project, and made
a presentation to try to secure funding to purchase personalised
theatre hats for all theatre staff in the DPU.
This idea came about off the back of
the #theatrecapchallenge, that has
been doing the rounds on social media.
The idea of staff having their names
on their theatre hat is to increase
productivity, safety and efficiency within
the theatre environment and improves communication between
the multidisciplinary team in theatre, as when in scrubs we all
look the same.
All DPU staff were delighted to have secured £1,500 as entrants
to the Dragon's Den with this project.
Dragon's Den Project
Two separate training days were organised by
Claire Murnin and Iris Markwell.
This training gave staff invaluable information
from nurse specialists from respiratory,
palliative care and care of the dying.
In the afternoon the staff had practical
sessions with four stations on looking at the
deteriorating patient.
The staff that attended were newly qualified
nurses from both medical and surgical wards
and they all found the day to be worthwhile.
