Elsewhere in Pas-de-Calais,
Lens is home to a satellite of the
Louvre Museum and, as such, hosts
exhibitions that change every three
months; the fi rst included Leonardo
da Vinci's "The virgin and child with
Saint Anne" and the second was
dedicated to Rubens - some start!
Our regional capital is Lille, in the
Nord department. It is truly beautiful,
with a Flemish infl uence, and the
famous cathedral dates back to 1854.
It is a busy and thriving city and a
Eurostar stop off, giving easy access
to the UK.
Also in the Nord is the town
of Roubaix, which attracts cyclists
from all over the world. They come
to tackle the infamous Paris-Roubaix
course, which includes over 50km of
cobbles and fi nishes in the historic
velodrome. People cycle it throughout
the year, but when there is an offi cial
event, the roads are strewn with both
broken bicycles and broken bodies!
You will fi nd that property prices
within the region vary as much as
the landscape; one thing they have
in common is that they represent
tremendous value when compared
to those in the UK, or across the
border in Belgium. As you can tell, I
really love this whole vibrant region
- though to be honest, my favourite
place is here at home, overlooking
the surrounding valleys and living our
quiet country life.
