14 Jim Kennedy - Woodard 1959
I was interviewed in London recently by Gyles Brandreth
for a BBC 1 programme called he One Show. hey wanted
to know all about a children's song called he Teddy Bears'
Picnic (lyric was written by my father). he filmlet was
shown in the early summer.
John Comino-James - Woodard 1961
King's Art Department was visited earlier this year by John
Comino-James, photographer, whose most recent book A
Question of England was reviewed in he Observer. It is a
book 'about belonging, identity and roots, both personal
and communal.'
John's work was interesting for our pupils on many levels.
Firstly he works almost uniquely in black and white, using
a darkroom. During their first term of study, all A Level
photography pupils take a short course in how to use the
school's darkroom, experiencing the world of photography
before the introduction of digital techniques. John's
informative lecture gave pupils a valuable insight and
the chance to talk to someone who has gained so much
experience in this field.
We have planned for John to return to the school in the
Michaelmas Term, for an exhibition of his work in the gallery,
and also to spend another day of stimulating discussion
with our pupils.
Graham Liddle - Woodard 1962
After leaving King's, I qualified as a Chartered Accountant in
London; I then worked for a number of companies around
the world, particularly in South and Central America. I
emigrated to Australia in 1974 where I continued my career
in industry and finally retired five years ago. I can now enjoy
golf with over two hundred courses within a couple of hours
drive. I am married and have a son and a daughter living and
working in Australia. I would love to meet any other OAs
who live in Brisbane or nearby.
Chris Stewart - Bishop Fox 1964
Chris returned to King's in June and spoke fondly about his
school memories and also gave an insight into his varied
career since leaving King's in the 1960s. He remembered the
great contributions that were made to his athletics career by
Graham and Patricia Hall, as well as the sympathetic support
given to him by his Housemaster George Morgan, and by
'Sarge' Wally Gooderham. Chris was All-England Schools 1
mile champion in 1964-65, and also represented England at
the distance in the same year.
Chris' active career in athletics lasted until the 1980s and
during that time he ran most distances between 1500
metres and the marathon. One of his greatest achievements
