As I write this, the emotions of Prize
Day are only just beginning to subside;
so many wonderful things to say about
so many people on a gloriously sunny
day certainly rounded off a fine year
in style. With a couple of very special
farewells topping the bill, and a concert
packed with high quality performances,
including some moving songs, it all
combined to create both laughter and
tears as we celebrated children and adults
alike. Bob Coupland gave us all a real
treat with some insights to his teaching
world over the last thirty years: he was
not only great fun but reinforced all that we feel is important. One
particularly strong message of his was that he soon realised that a
happy child is one who will learn and be effective at school - it's
safe to say that he has made a great number of children happy in
his time!
Bob's final cricket match, after 27 years of running the 1st XI, seemed
to be heading for a draw against Perrott Hill when the team pulled
out all the stops and managed to take the necessary five wickets in
the final overs. "Quite simply a pleasure to play under" is how one
recent member of his side summed up his contribution to King's
Hall cricket.
Matron's contribution was recognised when the boarders
celebrated her astonishing 40 years of dedication with a
memorable meal. After a heartfelt tribute Matron was presented
with a unique bowl, hand painted with the school logo and all the
children's names.
We wish Bob and Vicky Holmes well as they move on to new
adventures. We are also delighted to be hosting the OA Dinner
here in November when Bob and Vicky will be guests of honour.
I am not going to list the achievements and events of this year
as they are well documented in our Prep and Pre-Prep weekly
newsletters which can be read on our website. However, special
mention should be made of the Under 11 8-a-side Cricket XI who,
following on from their success in winning the county cup and
regional finals, represented King's Hall in the National finals at
Oakham. hey won their group comprehensively and played in
the final against Twyford, losing only on the last ball of the match
to become National Runners-Up - a great achievement. he
1st XI Girls' Hockey Squad also made it through the county and
regional rounds to qualify for the National Finals held at Beeston
HC, Nottingham.
With many having gained Scholarships and with everyone passing
Common Entrance, our Year 8 'Class of 2015' ended their time
here with their Charity Fete which raised £1070 for EDUCAID in
Sierra Leone. hey also demonstrated their engineering talents
during a Go-Kart rally on the front field as the rest of the school
encouraged them. Eleven teams took part and each go-kart was
judged for its aesthetic and practical design, as well as its speed
around the circuit.
No sooner has one year ended, than we look to the next in
administrative terms. here will be a large number of children
joining the school in September and King's Hall will, once again,
grow this year by about 10% on last
September as we look forward to
welcoming many new families to the
fold. King's Hall continues to be a joyful,
purposeful and successful place to be.
