King's 1st XI v PCA England Masters - 2 July
Events
King's College enjoyed an amazing day
of cricket hosting, the England Masters
for a T20 match on hursday 2 July.
Many of the legends of cricket's recent
past turned out to face the King's 1st
XI, including England bowling legend
Andy Caddick, and batsman Mark
Ramprakash, who notched up 100
centuries in his long career.
Lots of the attention was also focused
on the three former England players
who played such a big part in the 2005
Ashes winning series, especially with
the 2015 series due to start - bowlers
Matthew Hoggard and Simon Jones,
and batsman Marcus Trescothick who
was making his debut for the Masters in
his own backyard.
Despite a downpour at 1pm, the sun
came out and the match started almost
on time with OAs, pupils, staff , parents,
and local visitors all enjoying food,
drinks and entertainment in the school
grounds. Over 250 hospitality guests
and sponsors enjoyed a champagne
lunch in the marquee on the Meynell
lawn with a prime viewing spot. Young
pupils from local schools were coached
by the England Masters and King's 1st
XI in the early afternoon. he school
site rocked with the T20 commentary
and music that accompanied the
match. With over 1200 people around
the pitch it was wonderful to see King's
brimming with guests in the sunshine.
Once the match ended the party continued, with the King's Big Band
playing in the Marquee and getting
guests onto the dance floor.
It was an amazing day for King's. We
raised £20,000 for the Sports Hub appeal,
in addition to the 'feel good factor' that
many of our visitors, OAs, parents and
pupils experienced. Although the
weather was challenging at the start
of the event, we were blessed with
sunshine for the match and enjoyed a
wonderful afternoon of cricket.
he King's 1st XI were very grateful for
the opportunity to play against some of
their cricketing heroes and pupils agreed
that it was a day that they would never
forget. Although King's lost the match,
they played a great game of cricket and
the early wickets of Marcus Trescothick
and Chris Schofield gave the game
a competitive edge which ensured
spectators were kept entertained.
hank you to the many OAs who
supported the event, either by
attending, offering sponsorship, giving
auction prizes, or helping with the event
organisation. Particular thanks go to
volunteers Chris and Debbie Rew. he
event required the commitment of all
school staff and pupils to host so many
visitors in such a welcoming King's style
and could not have happened without
the support of the King's community -
thank you.
