Visitor Charter Date of next review: January 2025
Bovey Castle Hotel are committed to safeguarding the environment for future generations by protecting
it from any adverse effects which could arise from the activities we undertake or services we provide.
We hope that you will support us in this mission by following our simple
Visitor Charter during your stay.
Carbon Footprint - having arrived at the hotel and with so much to explore and enjoy on our 275 acre Estate, why not
consider giving the car a rest, if only for a day. There are a variety of activities to try your hand at onsite, bicycles for
your use and wonderful walks from the hotel for you to enjoy. Details of all walks and activities are available from our
Reception or Resort teams.
Respect Nature -help us to look after the landscape and wildlife by not littering. Dogs are very welcome at the hotel,
and dog waste bags provided for you to use. Please ensure, however, that your dog is on a lead at all times on the
estate and on areas of the moors where there is livestock. Please don't leave bags of dog waste behind. We have
allocated footpaths for you to explore the estate and signposts to follow to minimise disturbance to flowers and fauna
and we kindly ask that you observe the "Countryside Code - Respect. Protect. Enjoy."
Support Local Business - We have a wonderful array of local suppliers and producers, from local bottled water, juices,
gins & whiskeys to chocolate and honey, many of which you may sample at the hotel during your stay. By using local
products and services we hope you get a true feel of the area and in turn help us to support our local communities.
We are fortunate to have some fantastic producers of food, drink, arts and crafts in our region, some of which can be
purchased as gifts in our Bovey Shop. Our menus in the Great Western Grill and Smith's Brasserie are designed to
support local and artisan suppliers wherever possible.
Conserve Energy - We have been implementing some sensor lighting and energy saving LED bulbs throughout the
hotel and we turn off lights and climate controls in any areas that are not in use. Please can you help us to reduce
energy further by switching off your room lights when you leave your room, close any windows if the heating is on,
and turn electrical appliances off at the plug and not leave on stand-by. Only boil as much water as you require when
making hot drinks.
Recycle - Please help us to recycle any waste you have. We would politely request that you leave discarded
newspapers, magazines, bottles and cans next to your bin, we will be happy to do the rest.
Save Water - Please consider turning off the tap after washing your hands and whilst brushing your teeth. If you should
encounter leaking taps or toilets during your stay, please report these to our team so that these can be addressed.
Whilst we are happy to replace your towels daily, if this is not required, please leave them on the towel rail and they
won't be replaced.
Drive with MOOR Care - Should you decide to take the opportunity to explore Dartmoor during your stay we would
kindly ask that you drive with MOOR care and adhere to the 40-mph speed limit. This is in place for your safety and
that of the Dartmoor wild stock which roam the area and are often on the roads.
If you have any other ideas or suggestions that we may be able to implement at the hotel
and help us to protect the environment, we would be delighted to hear from you so please do let us know.
