Richmond upon Thames is a fantastic place to live,
work, study and visit. This is a borough with a rich
history and host of attractions which are sure to keep
you busy whilst you are here.
You are entering the home of world famous attractions
which include places such as the Royal Botanic
Gardens in Kew, Hampton Court Palace and the
Home of English rugby, Twickenham Stadium, where
you can visit the World Rugby Museum or take a tour
of the 80,000-seat stadium.
The borough has a wonderful array of historic houses
and hidden gems for you to while away the day in and
located just minutes away from the River.
In Twickenham you can visit Orleans House Gallery,
once home to both French and English aristocracy,
and marvel at its recently refurbished Octagon Room.
Whilst you are here why not pay a visit to the Orange
Tree Theatre in Richmond or get lost in our musical
heritage on Eel Pie Island, where superstars like Rod
Stewart, Eric Clapton and the Rolling Stones started
their careers. Today's visitors to the Island can enjoy
live music at Crawdaddy Club, Eel Pie Island Club
and Bull's Head.
Anyone who has spent a day in the borough, is left in
no doubt why some of our more famous past
residents including artist, JW Turner and Alexander
Pope chose to make their homes here. And why
Queen Elizabeth I and Henry VIII used the borough
as a royal retreat.
We pride ourselves on being the most beautiful
borough in London. And no doubt you will see why.
We have over 160 parks, commons and woodlands,
including the largest Royal Park - Richmond Park,
which attract millions of visitors every year.
This is the only borough to sit on both sides of the
River Thames and during the summertime you can
catch a boat from central London up to Hampton
Court Palace, which will give you a view of the
historic architecture of Ham House and Marble Hill
House along the way.
Exploring our green borough, you'll forget that you are
only a twenty-minute train ride from central London,
and is serviced by boat, rail, bus and the Tube.
If you are staying overnight you will be able to
choose from a wide variety of accommodation, and
great restaurants which are ready to offer you a
warm welcome.
Whether you are visiting for the day or are spending
a length of time here I wish you the warmest of
welcomes and hope you leave with fond memories
of London's greenest borough.
