Here at The Greenway, we have decided to work closely with the house of Veuve
Clicquot and we are proud to offer you the famous "Yellow Label" as our house
Champagne.
With only 10 cellar masters since 1772 Veuve Clicquot has shared a passion for wine
making through the generations, always staying true to the house moto "Only one
quality, the finest. "
Here are some important dates in the history of this famous house...
1772 Philippe Clicquot founds the House. His son, François, later marries
Barbe Nicole Ponsardin 1775 The House exports its first Rosé Champagne
1805 François Clicquot passes away. At age 27, Madame Veuve Clicquot takes
over the business (Veuve means widow in French) to become one of the first
business women of modern times
1810 Madame Clicquot produces the first vintage wine of the Champagne
Region
1814 Madame Clicquot defies the Continental blockade paralyzing Europe and
manages to dispatch a shipment of 10,000 bottles to Russia, with such
success that the House could not keep up with demand
1816 With her daring, avant-garde spirit, Madame Clicquot invents the
"riddling" method, a process to clarify Champagne. The process is used by all
Champagne Houses today
1866 Madame Clicquot passes away at age 89. The business is passed to
Edouard Werlé
Today Veuve Clicquot is the official Champagne of the England Cricket Team and
sponsor of 'The Business Women of the Year Awards'. The newest additions to its
sublime portfolio are the Veuve Cliquot RICH -a rich Champagne to be served with
ingredients over ice- and the Veuve Cliquot EBEO, an extra brut marriage of selected
old reserve wines.
