EARLY EDUCATION & CHILDCARE HIGHER NC
(SCQF Level 6)
Course overview
If you want to work under supervision in childcare,
this course will provide you with the knowledge and
understanding you need. You will learn the relevant
concepts, theories, principles and practical skills along with
a work placement ensuring you have valuable transferable
skills to shine in the workplace.
Minimum entry requirements
• Five National 5 qualifications at Grade C or above in
subjects such as English, Modern Studies, History,
Maths, Science subject, Psychology; OR
• NC Child, Health and Social Care Level 5; OR
• Other equivalent qualifications or experience.

CHILDHOOD PRACTICE HNC
(SCQF Level 7)
Course overview
This course combines the knowledge, theory and practice
you need to work in the early years sector. It is suitable
for those aiming to work within early years, and for those
already employed in sector looking for a formal qualification
or to upskill. The course is approved by the Scottish Social
Services Council as a suitable qualification for registration as
a Child Development Officer.
Minimum entry requirements
• Two Highers at Grade C or above in English, Modern
Studies, History, Maths, Childcare, Geography or a
Language; OR
• NPA Health & Social Care: Children & Young People plus
1 Higher; OR
• NC Level 6 Higher Early Education & Childcare; OR.
• Other equivalent qualifications or experience.

CHILDHOOD PRACTICE HND
Year 2 Direct Entry (SCQF Level 8)
Course overview
The course focuses on the job roles of those aspiring to
advance within the Childhood Practice sector. The award
will give you the opportunity to consolidate and reflect on
your own work experience and to advance your learning
beyond that of practitioner role. You should be working in
or have access to a placement in the Childhood Practice
sector.

Course overview
If you're interested in working with children or adults, this
course is an ideal first qualification. A work placement is a
key part of the course, giving you first-hand experience and
encouraging you to reflect on your approach. You'll also
learn the theoretical and practical skills required to stand
you in good stead for a job in this field.

• Three National 4 qualifications including English; OR
• Core Skill Communication at Intermediate 1 level,
or Skills for Work, Early Education and Childcare
Intermediate 1 or Intermediate 1 Care; OR
• Other equivalent qualifications or experience.

HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE NC

Course overview
This course is designed to provide you with the knowledge
and skills you will need for a career in the care sector. You
will be well prepared for environments such as nursing
homes, residential homes, and resource centres for people
with learning disabilities. You will consider who needs
care, what provision is available and crucially, the roles and
responsibilities of the care worker.
