HAIRDRESSING NQ
(SCQF Level 5)
Course overview
If you want to pursue a career in hairdressing, this course
can help you master the basic skills you'll need. You'll
have the chance to take part in a wide range of activities
including, competitions, presentations, workshops and
demonstrations. Work experience is an essential part of
the course, so you'll need to find a work placement at a
hairdressing salon one day per week.
Minimum entry requirements
• Two National 4 qualifications; OR
• Other equivalent qualifications or experience.
• Under EU law, you must be at least 16 years of age by
30th September 2020.

HAIRDRESSING HNC
(SCQF Level 7)
Course overview
The HNC Hairdressing course is designed for hairdressers
currently working in the profession who are seeking an
advanced certificate in hairdressing. This course will
provide you with the highest qualification currently held in
hairdressing. The course is designed for experienced stylists
or newly qualified stylists who want to further their studies.
Minimum entry requirements
• National Qualification at SCQF level 6 or SVQ level 3 in
Hairdressing; OR
• A minimum of 5 years' experience within the hairdressing
profession; OR
• Other equivalent qualifications or experience.

HAIRDRESSING NC
(SCQF Level 6)
Course overview
This course will build on your existing basic hairdressing
skills and help you develop more creative techniques
suited to the current industry. All technical units on this
course allow you to hone your existing skills, but you will
also develop creativity and advanced techniques. Work
experience is an essential part of the course, so you'll be
required to secure a work placement in a hairdressing salon
one day a week for the full duration of your course.
Minimum entry requirements
• NQ/NC Qualification at SCQF level 5 or SVQ level 2 in
Ladies Hairdressing; OR
• Other equivalent qualifications or experience.

MAKE-UP ARTISTRY NQ
(SCQF Level 6)
Course overview
This course is designed for you if you are interested in
taking the initial steps to a career in the fast-paced industry
of Make-up Artistry. All technical units build and equip you
with skills to expand your creativity and artistic skills through
specialist units, unique to becoming a make-up artist. Work
experience is an essential part of the course and you will
undertake a work placement which you need to secure.
Minimum entry requirements
• National Qualification at SCQF level 5 in Hairdressing or
SVQ level 2 Ladies Hairdressing or SCQF level 5 Beauty;
OR
• National 5 English or National 5 Art at Grade C
or above; OR
• Other equivalent qualifications or experience.

MAKE-UP ARTISTRY TV, FILM AND
THEATRE HND
(SCQF Level 8)
Course overview
This course is designed to enable you to reach the highest
qualifications held in Make-up Artistry in Scotland. With the
fast-moving and growing industry, this course will equip
you with specialised skills, expanding creativity and artistic
skills unique to a make-up artist. An essential aspect of
the course is working in industry alongside meeting and
observing Make-up Artists working in the field.
Minimum entry requirements
• National Qualification at SCQF level 6 Make-Up
Artistry; OR
• SCQF level 6 or SVQ level 3 Ladies Hairdressing; OR
• NCGA level 6 in Beauty Care; OR
• Other equivalent qualifications or experience.

HAIRDRESSING SVQ
(SCQF Level 4)
Course overview
This course is aimed at school leavers aged 16 plus who
have left or are thinking of leaving with no clear career
plans. Completing these Level 4 units would be a fantastic
transition from school into college and would support
a young person to get ready for employment within the
hairdressing/barbering industry or progress into full-time
courses within the college.
Minimum entry requirements
• There are no formal entry requirements but an interest in
the industry would be favoured.
• You must be 16+
• If English is not your first language you will be required to
have ESOL Intermediate 2.

FASHION MAKE-UP HNC
(SCQF Level 7)
Course overview
This industry recognised course is designed to give you the
skills and knowledge necessary to work within the Fashion
make-up, cosmetic and creative industries. You will be
taught by a team of industry experts who have a wealth of
experience in fashion photoshoots, film, theatre and makeup counters. As part of your course you will gain industry
experience observing and meeting make-up artists as they
work in their fields. You may also have the opportunity to take
part in competitions and industry shows.
Minimum entry requirements
• National Qualification at SCQF level 6 Make-Up Artistry;
OR
• SCQF level 6 or SVQ level 3 Ladies Hairdressing; OR
• NCGA level 6 in Beauty Care; OR
• Highers in English and Art at Grade C or above; OR
• Other equivalent qualifications or experience.
