T
he Development Office exists to
help the school maintain its
standards of excellence by
encouraging strong school relationships
and support from alumni, friends, parents
and pupils. We are grateful to the many
King's supporters who have made a
difference to the school this year through
sponsorship, scholarship endowments,
supporting the Horizon lecture series, or
by giving their time and skills to help our
pupils.
A multitude of school projects continue to
receive support through ongoing
donations to the Annual Fund account
and from other donors and sponsors. We
are pleased that so many pupils have
benefited from recent purchases such as
a computer chess set, picture frames,
Smart TV for history, and the new Chapel
sound system, and would like to thank
OAs for their support. We have also
received support from OAs who have
lectured to the school such as David
Hunter, Ben Thompson, and Hugo and
Ross Turner. Other OAs have helped the
Art department, giving work advice and
work experience plus the odd job!
Sport at King's has benefited hugely from
OA sponsorship and enabled pupils to
represent the school in sponsored kit.
The OA Club continues to support school
projects, and this year helped sponsor the
school cricket tour to Sri Lanka, and the
Biology trip to Mexico, and has also
purchased new trekking trousers for the
CCF. OA prizes were awarded at Parents'
Day, and pupil attendance at OA events
such as the annual networking evening at
Page International was subsidised.
Event sponsorship is also a valuable gift
and Steve Ingham, Victor Chu and Adam
Spiers are all thanked for their support.
The Joan Sewell Benefit Fund set up by
an OA continues to play an important role
in school life, sponsoring school academic
prizes, scholars' trips, the annual trip to
CERN, organ lessons, and a multitude of
other initiatives. Other OAs such as
Franklin Heng have set up a maths
endowment (named after John Crabtree)
for 62 pupils which rewards excellence in
the subject.
The Business / Careers Network has been
set up by the Development Office to help
recent leavers and young OAs with their
career choices, as well as providing
networking opportunities for those in
established careers, and advice for those
looking to change careers. The network
is available to any member of the King's
community looking for careers
information, networking and advice.
Recent successes include work
experience for pupils and jobs for OAs.
