T
he Under 14s got their season off
to the best possible start with Jack
Scrivens scoring a wonderful
hundred in his first game for King's, and
James Clark bowling superbly in a sevenwicket
win at Sherborne. At Millfield
though we lost a game we could and
should have won. Sloppy fielding gifted
them a total of 181, with Will Hall
bowling nicely to pick up three wickets,
but despite spirited resistance from Tom
Pittman (67), we fell 24 short.
James Clark was the pick of the bowlers
at Bryanston, conceding just one run in
his six overs! Jack Scrivens once again
bludgeoned the ball out of the ground as
we won by eight wickets in just half our
overs. Ed Coombs and Freddie Cole soon
had Queen's in trouble, and they were
bundled out for 61, before openers Jack
Scrivens and Joe Woodhead polished off
the runs in seven overs.
Blundell's was a thrilling game which we
lost by just nine runs. Disappointing
bowling allowed them to reach 216, but
in reply our batters shone. Tom Pittman
scored an unbeaten 78 and was well
supported by Jordan Baker with 74, but
we fell agonisingly short. After fifties
from both Jack Scrivens and Alex Baker
in a narrow defeat at Canford, we enjoyed
a comfortable 30-run victory against
Taunton School, Jack Scrivens and Tom
Pittman both scoring solid thirties, while
Freddie Cole was the pick of the bowlers
as we dismissed them for 134.
Ed Coombs set the scene for a five-wicket
haul from Will Hall at Monmouth.
Chasing just 107, it did not take long for
the King's openers to knock off the runs,
Jack Scrivens batting patiently and
intelligently, well supported by the
increasingly impressive Jordan Baker.
But against Clifton we could post only
116, and it never looked like being
enough. Ed Coombs bowled a brilliant
opening spell, but Clifton reached their
target for the loss of six wickets.
A
fter a tricky start to the season for
the Bs (despite Cameron SouterFrost
and Hugo Campbell-Smith
playing particularly well against Millfield),
we turned our season round with a
stunning 83-run win against Queen's.
Cameron Souter-Frost and Toby Bennett
shared an opening stand of 74, before we
bowled Queen's out for 59, Henry Joyner
taking two fine catches and Toby
contributing 4 for 11 as well as a run out.
Charlie Collins (50 not out) and Cameron
Souter-Frost (46) contributed to our 190
for 5 against Blundell's, and in reply they
could manage only 130 all out, with
Adam Shimali and Hugo Campbell-Smith
taking three wickets each.
After allowing Canford to reach a total
well beyond our reach, we enjoyed a
thriller against Taunton School. Cameron
Souter-Frost and Charlie Collins shone as
we reached 197 for 3 from 25 overs. In
reply Taunton started well, but Jamie Day
came to the rescue with four wickets for
five runs in nine balls, as we ran out
winners by nine runs!
Another excellent demolition job by the
bowlers set up an easy win against
Monmouth. Adam Shimali scored 26 in
three overs, and Hugo Campbell-Smith
took three early wickets, but undoubtedly
the man of the match was Will Cashmore
who took 6 for 15 in three overs as
Monmouth were bowled out in 14 overs,
90 runs short. But we didn't score
enough against Clifton, and too many
extras cost us dear as we lost by four
wickets. But we had won as many as we
lost in the season!

Joy for wicketkeeper Tom Pittman against Blundell's … … but despair for the batsman
