Aluredian 75
A
rather mixed season for the 2nds
began with a thrillingly highscoring
draw at Queen's. Trailing
4-2 at half-time, we rallied magnificently
to clinch a 5-5 draw with just seconds to
go, thanks to goals from Will Bishop,
Harry Sharp and Jake Fleming - James
Winsey and Hamish Manger both played
particularly well in the second half.
It was a fast, entertaining game against
Millfield which we were unlucky to lose
late in the second half. Nico Mills fired
home a well-worked goal in the first half
after which Millfield equalised with a
deflection that not even player of the
match Paddy Cartwright could reach, and
they eventually found the winner with just
minutes remaining.
Some lovely passing hockey in an end-toend
game at Sherborne led to a goal for
Nico Mills. Jordan Clayton and Jake
Fleming showed good movement up
front, but unfortunately we conceded a
penalty in the dying minutes. Defensive
lapses at Taunton School cost us dear,
and though we took the lead early on
against Canford, we struggled to contain
strong opposition. Blaine Tottle, Alex
Sherred and Nico Mills though all caught
the eye in midfield.
An entertaining game that could have
gone either way at Bryanston ended in a
2-2 draw, Jordan Clayton linking well
with Arthur Keeling to provide us with our
well-deserved equaliser. It was
champagne hockey though at Blundell's,
a hat-trick by Will Bishop leading the way
to a convincing 6-0 win. The defensive
skills of Blaine Tottle and George Retter
were still much needed against
determined opposition, and brothers
Arthur and Ed Keeling along with Harry
Sharp played especially well in midfield
to keep possession.
We conceded twice early in the season
finale against Clifton, though Harry Sharp
brought us back into the game with an
opportunistic goal. A closely fought
second half saw Clifton seal victory,
despite some solid defence by George
Retter, James Winsey and Blaine Tottle.
T
he 3rds got off to a promising start,
with a superb strike from Aaron
Dobie and a perfect short corner
from captain Rob Cameron sealing a 2-1
win against Queen's. There followed two
disappointing performances, as we came
second by a distance at Sherborne,
followed by a challenging day at Taunton
School. The 3rds don't play well in the
cold apparently!
The following week we responded well to
Canford taking the lead, and fought back
to 4-2 down with goals by Alex Grace.
But it was a much better all-round
performance at Bryanston - it was a
shame that a hat-trick from Rob Cameron
and a superb strike by Alex Grace were
still not quite enough to earn us a win.
The win eventually came though at
Blundell's, determined running from
captain Rob Cameron keeping the midfield
alive, while good finishes from Harry Parkin
and Aaron Dobie secured the win, to finish
the season on something of a high.
