here were some fine performances
from the school's boys, led by the
consistently excellent top seeds,
Jordan Clayton and Joe Merriweather.
Highlights of the 1st VI's season included
a comfortable 7-2 win against Wellington,
and a nailbiting 5-4 victory over an
extremely strong and experienced OA side.
The Under 16s too enjoyed considerable
success, which included a 5-4 win over
Taunton School, and they rounded their
season off in some style with an extremely
satisfying 6-3 win against Clifton.
King's is now committed to two new
national schools' competitions, the
Glanville Cup (and the Aberdare Cup for
the girls), and the Independent National
Schools' Championships, in which the
boys compete for the Youll Cup, while the
girls play for the Loveband Trophy.
Jordan Clayton led the boys' team to their
first win in the Youll Cup against
Cranleigh School. With the scores tied at
one rubber each, he managed a crucial
win in the deciding singles match.
The girls too were extremely successful,
reaching the quarter-finals of the
Loveband Trophy, with Jess Kennedy and
Pearllan Cipriano defeating a pair from
Queenswood School in the last 16.
The pre-season training camp in Portugal
over Easter 2014 has been very well
supported, and is now full. And with
some really encouraging performances
from many of our younger players as well
this year, the future for tennis at King's for
both girls and boys looks extremely
bright!
